About CyberWolf
Mission, Philosophy, and Culture
For over 15 years, CyberWolf
Inc. has been dedicated to helping independent book publishers
grow and prosper through the use of ACUMEN Book, our business
management system. Our primary focus is to make ACUMEN
a "great technology value" in a business and technology
world that keeps evolving. Our organization is defined
by a relentless pursuit of system improvements and customer
service. We have a policy that any modification to the
core system is fully documented and made available to
all clients. We release a minimum of 4 versions a year.
We are firm believers in an open communication paradigm.
Unlike many other software system vendors, we have a published
price list. We encourage you to find out more about our
clients in World
Community.
The ACUMEN Book Evaluation
Product is inexpensive, comprehensive and can be purchased
before making the decision to buy ACUMEN. It is a fully
featured version of ACUMEN Book, including a complete
tutorial and documentation, limited only by the number
of records. Product
Info also provides a detailed introduction to ACUMEN
Book. These tools are indispensable to a publisher, because
it allows you to fully experience our software system
prior to purchasing.
At CyberWolf we recognize that great technology is not
enough. To be effective in today's business world, it
must be usable technology. To that end we are dedicated
to designing excellent interfaces, writing top-notch documentation,
and offering ongoing education and training. See Implementation
for more about training, technical support and changing
to ACUMEN Book from other software systems.
Finally, we place a high
value on community building. We have found that our clients
greatly benefit by networking with each other and by sharing
information about their operations. This interchange is
promoted by the ACUMEN Networked Users Group (NUG), an
email forum where publishers can get solutions to technology
questions and exchange ideas. In addition, our Development
Center offers an innovative technology, which enables
our clients to guide ACUMEN's development in the ways
that matter most to them. CyberWolf also hosts user conferences
where we can interact and learn from our clients in person.
We recently received this message from Brad Wolaver at
The Mountaineers Books:
"I appreciate your openness to
ideas. You have truly pioneered a great way of working
in the software engineering business. Your ability to
create a community of users is greater than most other
software companies out there. This is a huge advantage,
and certainly encouraging for companies that see the potential
functionality of your software in the future. Your ability
to rapidly engineer and develop new solutions is something
we considered in our decision to go with ACUMEN, and you
have proven those abilities time and again. Thanks again
for your accessibility and kindness in reaching out to
your ACUMEN community. Look forward to working with you
further."
The relentless pursuit of system improvements;
a dedication to usability; the belief in a strong publishing
community; a straightforward culture of openness and interaction
-- all of these form the foundations on which we continue
to build the CyberWolf organization.
Company Origin
In 1976 Larry Wolf co-founded Natural Nectar, a Los Angeles-based
snack foods company. In 1984 Larry sold his share of the
company and moved to Santa Fe where he became the COO
of Ramtech Inc., a technology company in the ceramics
field. In 1986 Larry helped to bring Ramtech public. 1986
was also the year that Larry joined the board of directors
of John Muir Publications (JMP), an independent press
publishing auto repair, travel and children's titles.
Larry's growing interest in computer technology led him
to leave Ramtech in 1988 and found CyberWolf, a management
consulting firm that focused on technology solutions.
In late 1988 the owners of JMP approached Larry about
guiding the modernization of their operations with a new
computer system. They were looking for an integrated software
system that would be easy to use and fit their budget.
After evaluating the publishing systems on the market,
they concluded that none of them matched their vision.
Larry was hired to write a custom publishing system based
on a pre-existing accounting program. He spent 6 months
interviewing and working with the team at JMP, learning
how all the operations were handled, and developing the
system specifications. Another 18 months was spent programming.
In June of 1990 JMP went live on the new system. ACUMEN
worked so well at JMP that Larry decided to offer it to
other publishers. The system continues to be well received
and is now used by over 150 publishers in 5 countries.
