Technical Networking
Information
Windows Server 2000, 2003, and 2008 can be integrated into an existing NT Domain or can be used as a stand alone server in a non-Microsoft network. We do not recommended that an ACUMEN server on Windows Server be configured as a Domain Controller if it is the only server running this operating system because the Windows security model (Active Directory) distributes security roles over 2 or more servers for fault tolerance and running a single Active Directory server is risky.
If you have an established Novell network and are introducing the NT Server for use with ACUMEN, it cannot be a node on the Novell network (though workstations can continue to move between the two networks without problems).
On an established Novell network, you cannot print from
ACUMEN through the Novell print server. You must have
a printer dedicated to the NT network, preferably networked.
If not network-ready, the printer can be cabled to the
NT Server and shared. It should not be cabled and shared
through Windows work stations.
For optimum speed, consider using a 10/100/1000 BT network interface card and hub or switch (as opposed to 10BT).
